We get asked this question all the time, so we thought we'd share the answer as this is a safety issue, and you all know how sharp we are when it comes to safety issues.
So, a surprising number of people ask us if they can tow a tube or wakeboarder etc using the two padeyes at the stern of their Williams.
This might seem like a perfectly reasonable question, but the answer is a very firm NO, and here's why...
These might be immensely strong fittings, but they are lifting points and are designed for vertical crane lifting only, using the specific strops supplied by Williams.
As you will see from closer inspection, they have 2 screws at the bottom and 1 at the top, further demonstrating their true design purpose.
Loading them up with extreme sideways force is not part of their design brief and could cause sudden catastrophic failure and damage to the tender, but more importantly its occupants.
If you want to tow anything with your Williams, ALWAYS use the ski eye or ski pole provided. These are designed specifically for the job, and will cope with the forces that towing toys and skiers etc places on the attachment, and its mounting point.
On most Williams tenders, the ski pole can usually be found in a forward locker, or under the engine cover.
You can, of course, use the padeyes as lashing points to keep your precious tender strapped firmly onto your swim platform.
